Otis Williams and the Charms were an American doo-wop vocal group in the s, who were originally billed as The Charms. Otis Williams born June 2, , in Cincinnati , Ohio , United States attended Withrow High School in Cincinnati, and in joined an existing singing group in the school when one of its members was sick. Nathan only wanted to sign Williams, but Williams insisted on taking the rest of the group along. They signed immediately to a subsidiary label , Rockin' Records, based in Florida and owned by Henry Stone later of TK Records , with Williams giving up a sports career to pursue singing instead. As a condition of their signing, Nathan required that The Charms pull out of The Minstrels, and so they did not appear in the subsequent five performances of the production. The Charms' first record in June , "Heaven Only Knows", was not a hit , and after a couple more releases they moved to another King subsidiary label, De Luxe Records , also run by Stone. Williams continued to record for DeLuxe in the late s, but with less success. These recordings were, however, re-releases of older recordings that featured Otis Williams. The group made no other recordings. Williams was drafted in , and recorded sporadically as his army leave permitted.
O ne of the first times Otis Williams, the founder and last surviving original member of the Temptations, realized his music made an indelible impact on their fans occurred after he received a letter in the mail. Despite launching over a half-century ago, the Temptations and their legend has lately been enjoying fresh relevance. Williams, who grew up in Texas, packed up and moved to Michigan with his mother when he was 10 his parents separated shortly after Williams was born. Among that crew was Smokey Robinson, the young singer-songwriter who penned a track that would help rocket the group to superstardom. But then everywhere we went, we heard My Girl. As the musical jokes, their nickname the Temps eventually obtained a new meaning with a range of members cycling in and out of the band over the years. Longtime lead vocalist David Ruffin younger brother of Motown solo act Jimmy Ruffin took over for Bryant three years after their founding, while Ruffin himself was unceremoniously kicked out the group in Egos and drugs got in the way. I stand there and look at that painting and think how I had to deal with 24 strong personalities, and here I stand today. Drugs came into play and once that happened, dreams and aspirations became fragmented.

Otis Williams born Otis Miles Jr. Williams is the founder and last surviving original member of the Motown vocal group The Temptations ,  a group in which he continues to perform; he also owns the rights to the Temptations name. Williams was born Otis Miles, Jr. The couple separated shortly after their son's birth. Becoming interested in music as a teenager, Otis Miles, Jr. Cameron have all been members. The group's lineup changes were so frequent, stressful and troublesome that Williams and Melvin Franklin promised each other they would never quit the group. Franklin would remain in the group until , when he became physically incapable of continuing. Franklin died on February 23, , leaving Otis Williams, then 53, as the last surviving original member of the quintet. Williams is the co-author, with Patricia Romanowski, of Temptations , a book that served as both his autobiography and a history of the group.
