He is the ruler of the Domain of Death and the father of Erinys. He was a minor figure in Greek mythology, often referred to but rarely appearing in person. Thanatos isn't mentioned in the game itself, but it's curious to notice that, for being a Primordial god , it is very likely that he participated in their war, which was mentioned at the intro of the game. The war was so vicious that almost all of the Primordials died during it, and Thanatos was one of its few survivors, which is also a proof of the great strength and power he possesses, even against other Gods. It is possible that, since many Gods were dying in the war and he is the God of Death, he was getting stronger at each time another God perished. In the Multiplayer, when a warrior respawns after death, the announcer may sometimes say "Thanatos will have to wait". Thanatos is described as an ancient and fearsome God, who predates the cycle of life and death, and is the reaper of all souls. Zeus sent the siblings to capture him and hide the Spartan where he wouldn't be found.
Thanatos God of Death
He was a minor figure in Greek mythology, often referred to but rarely appearing in person. His name is transliterated in Latin as Thanatus , but his equivalent in Roman mythology is Mors or Letum. Mors is sometimes erroneously identified with Orcus , whose Greek equivalent was Horkos , God of the Oath. Homer also confirmed Hypnos and Thanatos as twin brothers in his epic poem, the Iliad , where they were charged by Zeus via Apollo with the swift delivery of the slain hero Sarpedon to his homeland of Lycia. Thanatos was loosely associated with the three Moirai for Hesiod, also daughters of Night , particularly Atropos , who was a goddess of death in her own right. He is also occasionally specified as being exclusive to peaceful death, while the bloodthirsty Keres embodied violent death.
Thanatos Son of Nyx
Thanatos was the Greek god of nonviolent deaths. The touch of Thanatos was gentle, often compared to the touch of Hypnos, who was the god of sleep. Thanatos has a dominant role in two Greek myths. However, Heracles drove him off through combat. When Thanatos was depicted on vases, he was shown to be a bearded and winged old man. In some rare cases, he was depicted as a young person without any beard. In Roman mythology, Thanatos was named Mors or Letum.
Thanatos , in ancient Greek religion and mythology, the personification of death. Thanatos was the son of Nyx , the goddess of night, and the brother of Hypnos , the god of sleep. He appeared to humans to carry them off to the underworld when the time allotted to them by the Fates had expired. Thanatos was once defeated by the warrior Heracles , who wrestled him to save the life of Alcestis , the wife of Admetus , and he was tricked by Sisyphus , the king of Corinth, who wanted a second chance at life.
